Released in 1973, Neu! 2 is the bands second studio album a landmark of Krautrock / experimental rock with proto-punk and minimal / electronic leanings.
The opening track, Für Immer, delivers a driving, hypnotic motorik groove: pulsing drums, buzzing guitars and droning harmonics bleak, propulsive, trance-like. But constrained by budget/funding issues, the
albums second half abandons traditional song-craft: instead features manipulated versions of earlier singles played at different speeds (including Neuschnee and Super), distorted cassette/tape effects, rewinds a raw, abrasive early exercise in experimental remix and audio-art that challenged rock norms.
